H2ORIGIN DEMONSTRATOR VEHICLE

•June 13, 2008 • 2 Comments

It was April when H2origin demonstrator vehicle was introduced to the public. It was the excellent product made by PSA Citroën and fuel cell specialist Intelligent Energy. PPC was actually a battery-electric vehicle that makes use of the specially designed hydrogen fuel cell to significantly triple its range to a great 300km or 186 miles. It has a hydrogen storage system has developed for the zero-emission demonstrator vehicle that is based on the original Peugeot Partner Van which is compact enough to squeeze under the bonnet and using the a swappable storage rack of compressed hydrogen tanks that slide out the rear, by passing the need for the conventional fuel station that simplifies the infrastructure needed to make the hydrogen-powered vehicles a commercial reality.

The 10 kW fuel cell power system is essentially based on the Intelligent Energy’s PEMFC ( Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) technology is compact enough in order to fit in the engine compartment along with the entire auxiliary equipment as well as the electric motor. Meanwhile, the fuel cell is designed with a service life of 5,000 hours or about five years which is based on the average application of three hours a day and the company’s experience when it comes to compact fuel cell systems with cold start capability has also resulted in the vehicle which can be started at the temperatures as low as -20°C.

Actually, the company foresees that the use of compact fuel cell as the range extender as one of the most practical and feasible solution – for both economic and standpoints, for applying this technology. They were confident about this since their fuel cell expertise as well as system integration capabilities have been proven and now in developing the power system and incorporating it into this new street machine. The H2Origin is actually the fifth demonstrator made by PSA Peugeot Citroen and is one of the most successful product examples of integrating the fuel cell technology into an electric power train. Each of the vehicles in which Peugeot made such as the Peugeot Hydro-Gen, Peugeot Taxi PAC, H20 lght fire-fighting vehicle, Peugeot Quark and Peugeot 207 CC “e-Pure” are fully calibrated with different types of fuel cells.

Furthermore, the demonstrator is also one of the masterpieces of PSA Peugeot Citroën’s continuous work in terms of keeping or storing the hydrogen gas at 70Mpa. This is one of their accomplishments that maximize the hydrogen amount which can be kept in the provided volume by nearly 70%. The carbon fibre as well as the hydrogen resin tanks utilized undergoes complicated tests which includes the bullet firing at the platform design which has been previously applied in the Taxi PAC automobile and is significantly conceptualized to release the excess payload area for the cargo. As one of the pioneers in low carbon vehicles, PSA have already been providing and demonstrating several zero emissions street machines for years. H2Origin basically was conceptualized from Intelligent Energy fuel cell and such can extend its range from the approximately 100km to three that distance. It is maximizes the attractiveness for the urban delivery which is one of the most anticipated future markets for the electric vehicles.

The creation of the H2Origin demonstrator is actually a good sign that the car industry is exploring beyond their line just to help sustain the needs and demands of every vehicle freaks out there. Though such vehicle does not possess the unique style of every concept car, but it does have the performance that will allow anyone to have that exhilarating ride. Well, I don’t know about the price of this vehicle, but probably it also cost more bucks, on the bright side, this car vehicle has it all.

PHANTOM – A NEW RIDE FOR A MAN THAT LOVES LUXURY AND PROTECTION

•June 12, 2008 • Comments Off

Before, discretion is the key when it comes to the luxury armored vehicle arena, however, with the increasing competitors such as Range Rover and Jaguar making inroad into the market, Rolls Royce Motor Cars has revealed to the press people that an armored version of their Phantom will be launched. This fly ride is fully calibrated with substantial security benefits for those customers that require the highest levels of personal protection.”

This part is engineered to BR7 level which is the highest current international protection rating; the Phantom Armoured is virtually indistinguishable from the standard version, inside and out. But this car features high-tech fibre composites as well as special purpose steel in order to give protection for the vehicle’s bodywork while the glazed area was built from the sheets of the thickened glass. Likewise, a polycarbonate layer is also embedded inside for the purpose of extra protection of the passengers. The standard of the BR7 protection highly requires that the materials be independently proven to endure 7.62 x 51 NATO 150 grains, full copper jacket steel hard core bullets with a velocity of 2657 to 2723 ft/sec, such as those fired from a .308 Winchester rifle.

This street beast can stand up to an AK47 attack from ten feet away. In an ordinary vehicle, it would only have to meet the lower BR4 standard in order to protect the owner. Meanwhile, Phantom has an aluminum space frame chassis and suspension parts which have been further strengthened to carry the additional weight of the modifications. But its power train is untouched as it still provides an amazing 453bhp and a hair-raising 720Nm of torque. So what about the security? It offers a new package which has been made to offer the same luxury, comfort and refinement as the standard Rolls-Royce range. This car will be available initially in Europe and in the Middle East.

ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER FOR VEHICLES THAT NEEDS A POWER BOOST

•June 11, 2008 • 2 Comments

Today, there are a lot of latest innovations that comes out of the streamline. This is because of the continuous needs of many car owners from around the world. Performance is one of the main reasons of this. So here’s the good news, Controlled Power Technologies has developed a quick and excellent technical solution for the predicament when it comes to downsizing’ engines without compromising drivability and performance – the electrical supercharger. CPT’s low-cost production-ready variable torque enhancement system or VTES utilizes an electrically driven supercharger on demand (within 350 milliseconds) when the driving conditions demand it. The VTES can be implemented on current vehicles, using existing 12 volt electrical architecture, and when used in series with a turbocharger, the 2kW of electrical power translates into 20kW at the crankshaft.

Basically, downsizing the engine is considered as one of the most cost effective means to vehicle CO2 reduction. The European automakers have already moving rapidly towards the 30% reduction in displacing the mid-sized engines to around 1.4 to 1.6 litre capacity while offering the potential to provide up to 15% reduction in CO2 emissions. However, this downsizing trend will only be successful if the technology used is cost effective and at the same time the driving experience is still satisfying and sustaining the needs of the mass market consumer. Hence, the market success for the automakers is also influenced by their ability and that is to improve or maintain the vehicle drivability at the lowest possible total system cost.

In order for the smaller engine to become effective and survive in urban environments, they should be equipped with instant full torque availability so that the driver will be able to acquire an excellent acceleration. This responsiveness is important to avoid fuel from being wasted since the driver can select the low ratio gears to keep up with traffic low. To make it possible, smaller engines will usually need some good and reliable boosting systems. But nowadays, there are much simpler and more cost-effective solutions which can help prevent the systems from becoming more complex and expensive than the engine itself.

The creation of VTES is intended for these needs. The Variable Torque Enhancement offers a full boost within 350 milliseconds and can improve low speed torque response for an optimum turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines. This new masterpiece can be implemented on the new generation of vehicles using a 12volt electrical architecture and is more effective than any equivalent mild hybrid solution.

The CPT VTES system utilizes an electric motor driving a supercharger compressor that delivers an air charge to the vehicle engine for a short period of time, that is, when the driving conditions requires it. Meanwhile, its transient boost maximizes the engine torque at low engine speeds. Every time is used in series with the series conventional turbocharger. It usually gives out a 2KW electrical power that translates into 20KW at the crankshaft. Other advantage is that the possibility of battery draining is minimal and its charged is being restored by the engine alternator.

VTES can provide a dramatic increase on the air charge density over the critical first ten combustion cycles of the low-speed transient operation while delivering an excellent improvement both in emission performance and torque where it truly matters most. But it will only be achieved when correctly matched to the engine. Furthermore, its electric supercharger, the CPT family of low powertrain related products features a stop-start system now moving into close production readiness and exhaust energy recovery system in an advanced development stage. The CPT VTES ‘SpeedStart12’ stop-start system can crank up to 2.8-litre gasoline or 2.0-litre diesel engines; it also used standard 12 volt architecture. This part packages into the space of a typical alternator and all of the electronics that are integrated into the unit.

UNOMOTO: A NEW TYPE OF STREET MACHINE

•June 10, 2008 • Comments Off

One wheeled driving machines seems to be the newest trends nowadays. Last March, UnoMoto was introduced. It was actually described as one of the best two-wheeled unicycle. It takes a Yamaha R! frame and includes side-by-side wheels and Segway-like gyroscopic technology and wraps it in a custom made body to create a very different kind of electric commuter vehicle. Although the design is not as slick in the design stakes, this new vehicle prototype is reminiscent of the new Bombardier EMBRIO Concept which I have also featured today. However, this one has simpler controls, except for the on and off switch, the entire control is achieved by simply leaning; forward to accelerate, back to brake, and sideways to make a turn with the tilting suspension allowing the inside wheel to dip. When you switch it off, it rests back on its footpegs. Plus, it has a current low speed of 25mph. It’s design engineer Ben Gulak since he have created another excellent driving machine that will rock the industry. This vehicle possesses great characteristics such as green, unconventional and compact.

BOMBARDIER EMBRIO: THE NEW ONE-WHEELED VEHICLE

•June 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Today, I’ll be posting up a new unusual vehicle, but unlike those driving machines that I have featured on my previous posts, this one’s different. Why? Ordinary vehicles, let’s say the unusual ones, well, no matter how they look like or how different they are, still, they are equipped with four wheels. But this new vehicle that I’m gonna’ give ya’ll? It has only one wheel. So imagine yourself driving a vehicle with one wheel. Me, I can’t, but sounds like cool and exciting. The Bombardier EMBRIO Concept is a hydrogen fuel cell, a gyroscopically balanced, one-wheeled recreational and commuting vehicle that provides an extraordinary vision of the kind of personal transport we could be using twenty years from now. So, that gives me an idea, a future that is full of one wheeled vehicles. Hmm..

The brief concept for the Bombardier EMBRIO was to actually “create highly innovative, functional and exciting products to exceed people’s recreational needs” and find the “next thing” in recreational vehicles. The result is a futuristic and minimalistic one-wheeler that is as about far away as you can get from the conventional image of a uni-cycle – a mode of transport normally associated with circuses and street parades.” Well, that was a good plan. The creators of this one of a kind machine is still focusing on safety while allowing its owner to enjoy an exhilarating ride.

Another cool style for this vehicle is that, the riding position is similar to the motorcycle with a complex series of sensors as well as gyroscopes balancing passengers on the single wheel. The rider activates a trigger on the left handlebar to accelerate and turns are made by shifting body-weight rather than actually steering. Every time Bombardier EMBRIO Concept is idle or is at rest in “stand-by configuration”, the front wheels deploy into the ground just like the landing gear on a plane to maximize longitudinal stability. Furthermore, the landing gear retracts when the vehicle speed reaches 20 km/h but even without the landing gear, the EMBRIO would be stable when motionless because of the gyroscope.

Basically, the Bombardier EMBRIO concept’s main power source is the hydrogen fuel cell as well as an additional advanced new car technologies which also features a high-performance braking system, active suspension, night vision, a digitally encoded key and robotic assistance would be incorporated into the design. The entire concept was built from the lightweight materials including Polypropylene, Santoprene, nylon (injection moulding), aluminum (stamping, die casting and robotic assembly), magnesium (casting) and the use of fuel cell technology and recycling of aluminum and polyethylene is designed to make the Bombardier EMBRIO an eco-friendly design throughout its life cycle. This extraordinary vehicle is just one of the good masterpieces of the Canadian based Bombardier Recreational Products and it received the Gold Award at the 2003 Annual Design Awards-Industrial Design Society of America & Business Week Magazine.

SCORPION: THE NEW HYDROGEN CAR

•June 7, 2008 • 3 Comments

Last June 4, 2008, the Texas based Ronn Motor Company has also embraced hybrid vehicle. They have actually introduced their new environmentally friendly hybrid vehicle that also features built-in hydrogen on the demand system. Today, in pre-production and due for release before the end of the year, the sporty “Scorpion” runs on a 30-40 ratio blend of hydrogen and gasoline, promising reduced emissions and 40 mpg plus efficiency. In fact, majority of these hydrogen-related hybrid automobiles in development employs fuel-cells that operate like the battery to run supplementary electric motors. In practical means, fuel cell vehicles are electric or electric-gasoline hybrids.

The scorpion actually takes an alternative approach by utilizing an internal combustion engine configured to burn a combination of gasoline and hydrogen. The technology is not new, and as there is no carbon in hydrogen, the model offers a diminution in both CO2 and NOx emissions along with a momentous fuel efficiency boost (between 30 and 50% over analogous gasoline engines according to Ronn). However, the drawback of the hydrogen combustion is that, it does not generate any hydrogen that is achieved through the electrolysis or the fracturing water molecules, but the storage and control of the gas. Scorpion utilizes an on-board production system developed by Hydro runner to overcome these issues. This hydrogen on demand system employs a dual computer processor that significantly controls to create hydrogen and induct it through the air intake manifold as necessary, which means there is no need for high pressure storage tanks or hydrogen fueling stations, but just a small on board water tank. Hydrorunner’s patent pending system also include a multi-level safety system that includes a manual override and automatic shut off mechanism that activates in the event that excess heat or pressure builds in the system.

What about the features? The Scorpion boasts several features like the hand built carbon fiber Carbon fiber body over a chrome-molly chassis that is powered by an Acura Acura V-Tech, V-6, Type S, 3.5 Liter power-plant with a close ratio six-speed transmission. Highway fuel economy is foreseen to be in the 40 mpg range but there will be plenty of power when required – estimated at 289 horse in stock form but with a twin turbo option producing 450 hp. Other design highlight includes the Lamborghini doors, carbon fiber center console and steering wheel, paddle shift, Bose audio system and on-board GPS guidance system. For further specs check out the Ronn Motors.com.

Now, what we have here is a an unbelievable innovation in the car industry and shows the all American creativity. This is according to the Exec. To the Executive officer of the Ronn Motor Company, Ronn Maxwell. They are actually designing as well as constructing vehicles with performance components and unique styling with the objective of creating the new environmentally friendly vehicle stand out never before seen style and approximately 40 mpg plus efficiency, Furthermore, according to the company, they will accept advanced orders for its initial limited run with the exact production numbers and pricing to be announced “early summer of 2008″ ahead of the car’s release later in the year.

Well, Scorpion has truly caught my attention. It has a unique appeal which makes it as one of my new favorite driving machine. I guess this will best fit in the Wyclef’s Fast Cars new music video. Yeah, how about a cool car collaborates with one of the hip hop industry’s respected artists. Probably, he can add it to his own collection as well. Scorpion car looks like a Bat Mobile lol..but it does fit the concept too. But I don’t if how much does it cost now. Well, I guess, just like the other concept and luxury cars, it’s million dollar worth. And for people like me, you’ve gotta’ sweat on that on that too.

KEATING SKR AND TKR – NEW ROAD MONSTERS

•June 6, 2008 • Comments Off

British auto makers are now invading the car industry. This year, they are just one of the few car manufacturers who have introduced the latest hottest cars, super cars to be particular. And now a new car brand has appeared in the streamline. After eight years of developing a new concept of car, Keating is now giving us their new baby – the Keating SKR and the race-track only TKR brother that offers a continental appeal, lightweight snappy handling excellent power, from 400hp on the base model to a ridiculous projected 1500hp for the twin-turbo top dog. With sensible service intervals and a bespoke approach to super car-building, Keating hopes to rekindle the British performance auto industry.

The owner of these glorious driving machines – Anthony Keating has come up with these concepts since he has seen many of the well-known car brands such as the Lotus, Jaguar, Aston Martin and other popular British performance car brands have only fall into the foreign ownership over the recent decades. But of course, this man’s not like any other car enthusiasts, Keating puts himself in a position to do something about it. Hence, he sets himself a soaring goal of establishing the British super car brand from nothing. True, he built all of these from nothing. He actually struggled to find the precise combination of the componentry in England. He settled on the Filipino bodywork expertise, an American engine from GM, and Italian frame and chassis building. All design and development was undertaken on British soil.

And now after eight years, everyone has seen the results, Keating has now introduced its road focused SKR super car and the track-focused TKR variant. The designs has an Italian taste, though Keating has promised to provide a little British pragmatism with the long service intervals which makes these unique super cars a bit easier to own than any other automobiles on the competition. So what about the performance of these cars? Let’s start with the SKR. This ride is definitely fully calibrated with amazing features. It has the base 6-litre V8 motor  that pumps out a good 400 horsepower, and there are larger capacity twin-turbo variants of the TKR that promise to put up to a staggering 1500 horses to the wheels. Well actually that’s beyond the famous features of the fastest legal super car, the Bugatti Veyron that shows off a 1000php. The TKR on the other hand is considered a fast track racer even if it’s not competing for road going top-speed honors.

Let’s take a look to the SKR’s external feature. It has a steel frame that contributes to a 1190kg weight while the TKR has an all-carbon skeleton features that helps it weigh in just under 1000kg. Actually, the carbon body shell was one of the options on the SKR, but it was only applicable in warmer climates. Aside from their excellent chassis and the engine options, the rest are absolutely bespoke. Everything on these cars are great! From the dash instruments to the types as well as the seat coverings and the interior which is crafted to fit in every buyer’s specifications. So what about the price? Well, just like any other super cars SKR and TKR also comes in a “golden price”. SKR starts at around UK£90,000, so that would mean its more like UK£125,000 for the higher-spec 650 horsepower road version. Probably, you can get more bucks from the other well known car brands like Porsche. Owning these cars is not about showing off, but it’s about “exclusivity”. In fact, the company is planning never to sell more than ten a year. These automobiles are meant for giving a unique presence on the road and show the so-called British pride.

THE NEW “FASTER ONE”

•June 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

If you think Bugatti Veyron is the fastest car that exists, well, think again, you’ll probably be surprised with the latest news about the new Swiss super car that is rumored to have wiped off the record of Veyron, as the fastest car. This automobile is actually the contender for the fastest road-legal car on the planet. Its creator calls it as the “Faster One. As the name implies, it seems that this car has already claimed the throne. But of course, Bugatti fans will not just allow it. Of course, they would want to have a test to see “whose who”. However, no offense to Bugatti Veyron enthusiasts but if ever these two street beasts will compete on the road, the Faster One can claim the top speed of the 260mph (420kmh) would see it crawl away from both the Veyron and the SSC Ultimate Aero.

Veyron’s 1001 only possess 900 horse powers while the Faster One lives up to its famous name by the virtue of its excellent aerodynamics that appears to have been achieved partially through the boisterous application of the ugly stick. Hmm..If you could check out the price of its ultimate velocity, this will bring you a little over US$ 1.5 million. There is this school of design that introduces a new philosophy; it believes that anything that is designed primarily to be aesthetically pleasing is inherently not good for the fact. If such thinking could resonate with you, then appreciating this car will be easier for you since it has a unique look which is considered as one of its key features that makes it as the world’s fastest road-legal driving machine.

Weber Sportcars Faster One was built for the perfect blend of crushing down force and the total directional stability when it almost cover the length of the football pitch in every second. This glorious street machine also include a bonnet that is flared over the wheels as well as dipped in the center while creating a V-shaped air wedge over the vehicle while the slope gently up to the flush-mounted windshield to press the front axle firmly down on the road. Even the windscreen wiper gets in on the aerodynamics, sitting vertically against the windshield at rest to present the smallest possible profile.

Unlike any other vehicle, the Faster One doesn’t have any door handles. Weird right? But instead of door handles, this car is uses the Lambo-style switchblade doors tilt upwards at the press of a button. The underside of the car is also adorned with the same attention to aeros which is perfectly smoothly, with a curved, venturi tunnel at the rear up to where the twin exhausts exit. Similar with the Bugatti Veyron, the Faster One also has an electronically activated spoiler wing. When the gas pedal’s down, it’s angled to provide maximal downforce, but at very high speeds, it flicks up to a fully vertical position in a 20th of a second when the driver hits the brakes, providing a staggering 4,000 newtons of air braking without building any heat at all in the discs or tyres. It’s also an exceptionally light car that weighs 1100kg, which helps its incredible acceleration rate and power-to-weight ratio. Actually, the whole aluminum frame of the Faster One only weighs at 65kg and has the torsional rigidity of the concept is that it flexes inly with one degree under the force of 30 metric tons. To have the precise weight distribution, the fuel tank of this car has been split into four and placed around the vehicle.

Moreover, it also feature a special engine to take you anywhere near 420kmh. So, in the case of Weber, it means a 7.0 liter V8 having a dry-sump oil system and a belt driven 1.0 bar supercharger for each of the two cylinder banks. It’s fed through a custom-developed high performance injection system by Magneti Marelli, which offers a set of different injection mapping options accessible through buttons on the Playstation-style steering wheel. Actually there are still tons of great offer that this car have, all you gotta’ do is to explore them. You can check more of this info from gizmag.com.

CARBONYTE’S NEW MASTERPIECE

•June 4, 2008 • Leave a Comment

April was the right month for the British bespoke auto maker- Carbonyte. They actually made headlines at Gizmag as they introduced their 400bhp 170 mph stretched Ferrari 360 Modena F1 ‘limousine.’ In fact, Carbonyte is the first of the HotFusion Composite Manufacturing Technology that first used on the McLaren SLR Supercar, and it is actually the company’s expertise with the modern wonder composite that makes its masterpieces safer and more structurally sound than creating stretched limos via traditional means. The company actually unleashed their new creation and that is the Carbonyte Smart.

Actually, the plan is to follow up the stretched Ferrari with a range of elongated supercars that caught our eye – a Stretched Lamborghini  Murcielago is next, with a stretched Bugatti Veyron and a stretched Koeniggsegg CCR on the drawing boards. One of the avid car purchasers of the Ferrari was Limo Dan – from the Style Limousines of Manchester (UK). This guy was was amazed with the supercar Carbonyte and about the Lamborghini Murcielago to be converted to add an additional 4 passengers complete with an additional rear axle for a real dramatic effect.

The chassis of the Ferrari Carbonfibre was built with the HotFusion Composite Manufacturing Process then the chassis was bonded to vehicle using epoxy adhesives. A carbonfibre roll cage was also manufactured and bonded to vehicle and the nine feet wide, hydraulically-powered, remotely-operated gullwing doors were also made of carbonfibre produced with the HotFusion Process. The weight of the entire body structure was just 150 kg, despite the 2.7 metre extension.

On its interior, it is equipped with six carbon racing bucket seats and added with harnesses were also added so it ends up with eight seats- along with front and rear cameras front and three monitors inside the passenger compartment with switchable views. The difference is unnoticeable particularly in the acceleration of the original vehicle especially when it is empty and though it undoubtedly quite slows down when having six passengers. There’s no question why Carbonyte was a huge success. The sages behind it was also been a part of the McLaren crew that famously gave us unique concept car. Chris Wright which is one of the geniuses who have led the team that took the Mercedes-Benz  Smart Fortwo and stretched its chassis to over twice its normal length (2695mm) to create a 17 feet long vehicle (5100 mm). Despite the length, the car is so light due to the Smaaart’s new lightweight alloy chassis and carbon shell, that the vehicle is powered by its original 600cc engine and can still comfortably reach motorway speeds of 80mph. In all, the build process took just 300 man hours over four weeks from the initial chassis cut to the final paintwork.

But the prototype Smart Car was released as a promotional vehicle that features a 20:1 scale fibre-glass replica soft drinks can, complete with ring-pull, which serves as van-like storage space for promotional items. The Carbonyte was desinged to enable these people to create Bespoke Vehicles for clients around the world at extremely reasonable cost. The Bespoke automobiles are constructed for the individual clients in order to lease or purchase outright at the projected cost of around UKP25,000 (BYO vehicle) and the company offers a confidential vehicle build service for clients from its factory on the South Coast. For instance, Carbonyte is currently looking for something that will help them to modify a Smaaart intended for the funeral industry by applying the latest electric technology to manufacture an individual yet environmentally-friendly hearse. Well limousines and super cars are just one of the favorite toys of the rich and famous. Particularly they are seen on TV’s especially on hip hop music videos. So i won’t be surprise if ever Carbonyte will be on the new hip hop music videos.
