20 MOST DANGEROUS VEHICLES

Automotive Safety is always been a priority of car owners, passengers, and car manufacturers. As define, it is the avoidance of the automobile accidents or the minimization of harmful effects of accidents, in particular as pertaining to human life and health. This is the reason why there are many safety features which are integrated into the automobiles for years, some of them are intended for the safety of the passengers while the others are for the vehicle’s safety. This objective has also resulted to the improvements of the highways and the vehicle design. Therefore, the cases of injuries as well as fatalities every mile has reduced significantly. However, according to the World Health Organization, road traffic injuries are still 25% of the worldwide injury-related deaths with an estimated 1.2 million deaths every year.

Some of the major causes of accidents include the driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, inattentive driving; crash compatibility between the vehicles; driving while fatigued or unconscious, encounters the road hazards like potholes, snow, and crossing animals or reckless driving. But aside from these factors, unbelievably, the vehicles are also one of the reasons why there are thousands of lives are being wasted every year worldwide. Forbes Magazine, a prestigious publication has enumerated the 20 dangerous vehicles that everyone should avoid, if possible actually. The car safety experts said that the best means to determine the safety as well as the danger risks the vehicle entails depends on the way it is configured or built, particularly to some essential aspects such as the side impact protection, stability control and roll-over risk that when combined, will provide crucial safety in vehicular accidents such as crashes.

So here is the list of the 20 dangerous vehicles provided by the Forbes Magazine;

1. Buick Rendezvous
2. Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series
3. Nissan Frontier
4. Ford Escape/ Mercury Mariner
5. Toyota Yaris
6. Hyundai Accent
7. Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe
8. Kia Rio
9. Chevrolet Aveo
10. Suzuki Reno/Forenza
11. Ford Focus
12. Jeep Liberty

By conducting crash tests on the new vehicles, the IHHS has seen a wide range of results which concerns side-impact as well as whiplash protection. Lack of side impact protection is the reason why many vehicles are unsafe nowadays. Head injuries are definitely one of its dangerous results. That is why, side curtain airbags are mandated to be installed in all 2009 vehicles. This new car safety part has been proven to increase the chances of survival in the classic “T-bone” side impact accident. Furthermore, it also promotes passenger safety in the case of roll-overs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) predicts that side curtain airbags will decrease cases of fatal side-impact head injuries by 45 percent resulting to 1,000 safe lives per year.

The side airbags are specially designed to protect the head which is important since head injury is one of the most fatal injury in a crash. Along with the side curtain air bags, the entire vehicles need a strongly built side structure to endure strong blows from all sorts of vehicles. The experts have stated that larger vehicles have more advantage in accidents due to their wide range of stability, but it doesn’t mean that smaller ones are considered as dangerous types of vehicles. Oftentimes, smaller vehicles offer easy handling and maneuverability needed to prevent accidents. However, Rader and Linkov’s thinking are not on the same angle.

By 2012, the electronic stability control systems will be mandated on all vehicles. Such system functions by smartly applying the brakes on one or more of the wheels to avoid loss of vehicle control in an extreme maneuver. It is considered as one of the rare safety mechanism that has a dramatic effect on saving lives. Likewise, it even lessens the risk of fatal single-vehicle crashes by 56%. And it can minimize fatal single vehicle rollovers by 80% for SUVs and 77% for passenger vehicles. Any vehicle will be entirely unsafe it it’s not properly built with the crucial safety components. And of course, driven by a total reckless driver, accidents are inevitable.
